Listening To God And How to Seek His Will

There are some roads in life that we have never traveled. Learning to first seek God’s will for the unknown is highly important for our soul’s sake. Very often we get excited about something that sounds too good to miss, and we do not want to miss the opportunity of the adventure.

It may seem to be something that we think we need, and we build up the desire so much that we fail to seek God’s approval or listen to God’s voice.  It also can be that we sometimes do not even seek His plan because of the desperate desire. However, that approach is not how we can grow in His Spirit and grace.

Any soul who is seeking a resting place of peace when we die needs to seek His presence and ask Him to guide us to His perfect will and what is best for our well-being. More than likely I am not the only human who has made decisions without seeking or listening to God or waiting for His instructions.

However, I am also a witness that there are consequences for the results not anticipated. We do not always see the dangers of our unfettered decisions, but God does, and He can save us from a lot of turmoil.

If You Do Have A Relationship With God

I know that it is difficult for someone who has never acquainted themselves with God, The Word of God, and has not accepted The Lord Jesus Christ to understand what listening to God means. You may not even think it is possible, or probable. It is, and it is one of the most important facets of living a true dedicated life to reach our final destination.

If you want and need to learn to trust God, don’t be afraid to look up, reach up, reach out, and seek His presence, and believe. One of the best scriptures to give you is this:

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13 (KJV)

Yes, there are many things to learn if you are beginning. Just like everything else in the world that you desire to excel in…” knowing God, The Father and His Son Jesus” requires dedication and study. However, when you confess your sins and call upon Him for more understanding; He is listening.

As We Move Forward-Listening to God Is Essential If You Are Trying to Live a Spiritual Life

Listening to God is an essential part of a believer’s spiritual journey. It involves quieting our hearts and minds to discern His voice amidst the noise of daily life. Scripture teaches us that God speaks in various ways—through His Word, prayer, circumstances, and the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

By attentively listening, we align ourselves with His will, receive guidance, and experience the peace that comes from knowing we are walking in His purpose. As we cultivate a habit of listening to God, we grow in wisdom and deepen our relationship with Him, enabling us to live lives that reflect His love and grace.

How And Why Do We Listen To God’s Voice

Listening to God’s voice is vital for deepening your relationship with Him and understanding His will for your life. Here are some key steps to help you listen to God’s voice:

1. Spend Time in Scripture: God’s primary way of speaking to us is through His Word. Regularly reading and meditating on Scripture allows His truths to take root in your heart and mind. As you engage with the Bible, ask God to reveal His message through the passages.

2. Pray with an Open Heart: Prayer is about talking to God and listening. Approach prayer with a posture of openness, asking God to speak to you and guide your thoughts. After you pray, spend time in silence, allowing Him the space to respond.

3. Be Attentive to the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit (¹the Holy Spirit) resides within believers and often speaks in a still, small voice, guiding and convicting us. Pay attention to the inner nudges and impressions you receive, which may be the Holy Spirit leading you.

4. Seek Godly Counsel: God sometimes speaks through the wisdom of others. Surround yourself with mature believers who can provide godly advice and help you discern God’s voice in your life.

5. Observe Circumstances: God can also guide you through your circumstances. Pay attention to how events unfold and seek to understand how God might be directing your path through them.

6. Practice Patience and Discernment: Listening to God requires patience. Not every thought or impression is from Him, so it’s important to discern His voice carefully. Compare what you sense with Scripture and seek confirmation through prayer and the counsel of others.

By following these steps, you can develop a more attentive and responsive heart, ready to hear and obey God’s voice.

2. If you do not seem to feel, know, or observe His answers, keep praying, keep your faith intact, and do not waver for what you believe. Why…read this scripture about wavering…James 1:6

3. If your request is not about healing, or those things which are necessary evaluate the desire. If the desire is personal to you, then it is sometimes wise to evaluate the desire to make sure your request is appropriate and what is best for you.

4. Always know that God’s decisions may not be what you desire or think you need. As the scripture states in Isaiah 55:8- “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither my ways are not your ways…” He always knows what is best and can keep you from the path that might be dangerous or fatal.

5. Trusting God is critical to know that you are walking the right path within your Spiritual walk with Him. He makes no mistakes, but He knows that you are human and sometimes humans make mistakes. He is protecting you when the answer is; no, not now, or perhaps later.

Summing Up Listening To God

The Holy Spirit will guide you and here is some explanation to what The Holy Spirit is, and what it does…

¹The Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, alongside God the Father and God the Son. He is God’s presence within believers, empowering them to live according to God’s will.

The Holy Spirit guides, comforts, and teaches, revealing truth and helping believers understand and apply scripture. He convicts of sin, produces spiritual fruit, and gifts believers with abilities to serve the Church. The Holy Spirit’s work is essential in transforming lives and sustaining a deep, personal relationship with God.

Scripture Concerning The Holy Spirit of God

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” Romans 8:9 (KJV)
