God’s Promise to Abraham

God's Promise to Abraham

Why Do We Forget God’s Promise to Abraham?

Post from 2018- updated 10-17-2023

We sometimes live beneath what we are heirs to and why do we? It is often easy to forget and we often question, and all get to the point of wanting to understand the issues of life. We need to remember our blessings never go away. It is our duty to remember our walk with Him is something we must cherish every day.

We must not let anything come between us, or drift back to a state of less assurance or unbelief in the blessings of Jesus Christ. However, we need to be sure we do not forget the full blessings that we have been given with the promises God gave Abraham. We are his children, and the seed of Abraham and God’s Promise to Abraham is for our benefit.

This is when we should go to Him in prayer and read His Word so that we remember His promises!

Let Us Renew Our Minds to the promises that God gave Abraham…

Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing:

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee:  and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”  Geneses 12: 1-3

That was the beginning but not the end of that blessing…..

“Neither shall they name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. v5

And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.”  Genesis 17: 5,7

“And, if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:29

We Must Live by Faith

We must live by faith that God is looking out for us, just like He said He would do in Geneses because He was referring to those that come thereafter; all who believe in Christ. “The just shall live by faith.”

“But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”  Hebrews 11: 6

Believing The Words of God

We must believe the words of the Father and know that we are heirs of Abraham. Live accordingly even when the going gets tough and hard. There is no need to let discouragement get us down. We have not been asked to give up anything that makes our life worthwhile, like when Abraham was tried by the Lord.

He was willing and obedient, therefore God saved Isaac.  If we are willing and obedient; we shall eat the good of the land.

Why Do We Often Forget That We Are Abraham’s Seed

Why is it therefore so easy for us to forget that we do not want to be without God in our life?  We have every promise that has been made to the righteous, yet we sometimes get weary and feel forsaken.

Therefore, we are not ever forsaken or left alone. We are being tested just like God did Abraham, to see just how faithful we are. God wants to see if we mean what we say.

Sometimes we say one thing and do another. He gets tired of that and wants us to be wholly committed to Him.  If we are to reap the benefits of our promise given through Abraham, we must live up to our claims, (about who we are), and a life dedicated to our Christian growth.

Our commitment should be something like the following:

My simple prayer is…

Lord, I am nothing but what you allow me to be.  I want to be all you desire me to be and take it upon myself to remember your promises to Abraham and live my life with zest and faith.  Knowing that nothing can touch me that I will not be able to bear.  I want to speak faith, demonstrate faith, and be faith in action so that those who are lacking the ability to believe; may believe and they can be blessed through my actions. According to the promises you bestowed upon Abraham’s seed.”  Amen

We All Need Blessings on Our Journey to Heaven

No one is without the need at some point in their journey to see the hand of God move in their direction quickly, to bless them.  Sometimes it is with a problem, an urgent request, or some tragedy.

We are all human and when we are hurting we begin to want immediate help and comfort for what is causing us to hurt.  God is looking down at these times, never think He isn’t. God is there,  He hasn’t left us or forsaken us, regardless of how we feel.

We will have problems but Joy cometh in the morning, and it is only for a season. We must learn to live with that thought in mind, that God’s blessings are ours, not just in one area of our life, but our entire being.  God doesn’t go back on His promises.

When the season is over, we will revive, be stronger, more confident, and full of joy again. “This too shall pass.”

Until next time…
