Lessons And Quotes From The Waterfall
What Can We Learn From The Waterfall? Just for Monday Motivation… update 11-01-24
You will never have this day again. Live it wisely, and plant a seed of hope to someone, somewhere. Ask for forgiveness from someone you kind of snarled at. Give thanks for the little things that amount to those big things…like breath. You woke up today, live it with glee. There is hope, there is love, there is happiness, and when you have the aforementioned you will certainly be motivated.
“Motivation will almost always beat mere talent.” ~ Norman Augustine
If you have lived long enough and watched the people around you, even some of your family, you know that the words of Augustine are true for many. Some individuals have the knowledge, talent, and ability to shine like the sun. So, what is stopping them? They have the potential to rise the ladder, make large sums of money, and be an influence. Again, what is stopping them?
Where is their motivation? What is holding them back from fortune, and who knows possibly fame? The answer may be somewhat different for each of those individuals, however, many times the real reason is they have not taken the time to become motivated. Motivation will carry you through the doubts, fears, and what-ifs.
Looking Back In History
We also read stories, about our modern-day legends surrounding the early failures of such respectful successful individuals as Michael Jordan, Bill Gates, Oprah, and many more. We can look a bit further back in time to Albert Einstein or even further back to Abraham Lincoln. What made each of these people so successful? It certainly wasn’t their looks, how they dressed, where they came from, or the color of their skin. It was motivation.
So How Do We Increase Our Motivation?
What can we do about it? How can we motivate ourselves? One of the most difficult aspects of achieving success is staying motivated over the long haul. Regardless of what comes and goes. We may get blindsided, however, deep within the motivation keeps spewing.
Motivation is not an accident or something that someone else can give you — you are the only one with the power to motivate you. Make a note that motivation cannot be an external force, it must come from within. It must be the natural product of your desire to achieve something and your belief that you are capable of succeeding at your goal.
“Positive pleasure-oriented goals are much more powerful motivators than negative fear-based ones.”
Although each is successful separately, the right combination of both is the most powerful motivational force known to humankind.
Let’s Go For a Moment to Waterfalls and Motivation
Water is the liquid that sustains nature. It will be very difficult for us to find a living being that does not need water. Have you thought about how essential water is to everyone and everything?
Yes, I know that you take a bath in water, wash your clothes with water. You drink water many times a day, but I am asking – have you observed the significance of water? Take a glass of water and look at it carefully. It is transparent. There is no taste. It mixes with most of the materials and it takes every color given to it. That is water, and that is why waterfalls are so charming.
The speed of falling water itself is a great freshener. Why does that make us feel good? Is it the power of the fall, or the great volumes of water that fall non-stop? The whole atmosphere feels clean near a waterfall. When the small drops of water cover the whole surroundings, they are enchanting in themselves and the view is mesmerizing.
Why do people go and visit waterfalls? How many of us think about that? We visit waterfalls because we love watching them, and we get energized watching them. These beautiful waterfalls give a feeling of unknown excitement just being near the flowing, non-stoppable water. Why?
The first reason is that the waterfall is natural. No man-made waterfall will ever attract so much attention as the natural one will. We are after all products of nature and carry the genes of forefathers who lived in jungles. The second reason is the sense of purity we feel near a fall. That and the power, the velocity of the fall, and copious amounts of water going down at every moment.
That takes us away from our worries and attracts us to ourselves.
The Message of The Waterfall
Come watch me. Look at my power, look at my innocence, and look at the non-stop motion. I never get tired, and I have been going on like this for centuries and will continue like this. From infinity to infinity. This is the message of waterfalls.
The waterfalls motivate us to work untiringly. The message they give is simple – work ceaselessly without thinking of any support from anyone. Be on your own and work. One day the world will come to watch you.
Get inspired by the waterfalls next time you see one. Here are some to listen to…
Here Are Some Tips and Methods for Motivating Yourself:
- Use a past defeat as a motivator. Remind yourself you have nowhere to go except up as you have already been at the bottom.
- Give yourself the power of responsibility. Remind yourself the only thing stopping you is yourself.
- Make a list of your achievements toward your long-term goal and remind yourself that intentions don’t count only actions.
- Do it today. Remind yourself of someone you know who died suddenly and the fact that there is no guarantee that tomorrow will come.
- Let success motivate you. Find a picture of what epitomizes success to you and then pull it out when you are in need of motivation.
Reflect and experiment until you find the right combination of motivators for your personality and your personal goals.
I’ll leave you with this final motivating quote and Lessons from the Waterfalls:
“Like a waterfall, let your heart flow freely, washing away the doubts and leaving behind only strength.”
“Just as water cascades over rocks, so can our troubles be softened by the endless flow of hope.”
“What drives me? The thing that drives me most is the desire to find my limits–and extend them.” ~ Richard Marcinko
“A waterfall cannot be silent, just as the wisdom! When they speak, the voice of power speaks! — Mehmet Murat İldan
“There’s hope at the bottom of the biggest waterfall.” — Patrick Ness
“The beauty of a waterfall lies in its surrender to gravity; sometimes, letting go leads to the greatest depths of peace.”
Now go push your limits, grow your motivation, succeed, and remember the sound and lessons from the waterfall!
