Christ In Us-When We Believe in Him

The profound words written by the apostle Paul in his letter to the Colossians reveal a powerful truth: “Christ in us.” This statement goes beyond mere metaphor—it signifies that Jesus Christ is alive and that His Spirit dwells within the spirits of His children. Let’s explore this concept further…

“Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” 1 John 4:15 KJV

This is a significant title and a very detailed and involved subject. The answers in the Bible are explicit, direct, constant, and inflexible. I came across this subject without intending to, but became engulfed with it as it brought to my attention something I had not studied extensively as I should have.

It made me want to re-examine my life, my thoughts, my heart, my emotions, and my understanding of salvation and His Spirit in Us in greater detail. So, I trust in some way this post will bring something of value to your Christian life as we talk about “Christ in us.”

We Are Tripartite Beings

Tripartite Beings: As humans, we exist as tripartite beings:

    • Spirit: Our deepest part, created with the ability to connect with and receive the Spirit of God.
    • Soul: The seat of our emotions, thoughts, and will.
    • Body: The physical vessel through which we interact with the world.

What Does Christ In Us Mean

When we receive Jesus as our Savior, He enters our human spirit. It’s not merely that Christ is outside of us, like a Helper in times of need; He lives in us and is with us constantly.

Biblical Verses Confirming Christ’s Indwelling:

    • Romans 8:10: “But if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, the spirit is life because of righteousness.” Our spirit, enlivened by Christ, becomes a source of life.
    • 2 Corinthians 4:6-7: We are like earthen vessels containing the treasure of Jesus Christ. His glory shines from within us.
    • Galatians 1:15-16: God’s plan is to reveal His Son in us, not merely to us. Christ’s presence within us is a continuous revelation.
    • Galatians 2:20: Paul declares, “It is Christ who lives in me.” Our Christian life isn’t about imitating Christ; it’s about allowing Him to live through us.

These Scriptures I Add As They Will Give You More Clarity Than My Words

Simple, direct, and focused scripture brings all of this to the surface, and is the following:

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” Romans 8:9 KJV

Verse 10-11:

And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

How Should We Appear To Others When Christ Is In Us

When Christ is in us, our lives become a living testimony, a reflection of His love, grace, and truth. Here are some ways we can authentically represent Christ to others:

  1. Authenticity: Live genuinely, without pretense. Be real with God in private, allowing Him to transform your heart. Authenticity makes us salt and light, attracting people to Christ.
  1. Consistency: Our daily lives should consistently reflect our identity as followers of Christ. People observe us, and they need to see faithfulness, dedication, and active Christian living.
  1. Unity: Understand that as followers of Christ, we belong to God’s household. We are part of one family, unified with each other. This unity reflects our legitimate status as children of God.
  1. Love One Another- We must always remember, regardless of what occurs within our lives with other humans, to remember that we must abide by The Word of God.

“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” John 13:34 KJV

“This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you.” John 15:12 KJV

In Summary

“Christ in you” signifies a profound reality: Jesus Christ is not distant or external; He is alive within us, guiding, transforming, and revealing Himself from the depths of our being.

Remember, our lives are like open letters, known and read by everyone. Let’s strive to be authentic, consistent, compassionate, and unified, allowing Christ’s presence in us to shine brightly for all to see.
