Why Does God Allow Us to Suffer?

Why Does God Allow Us To Suffer

Why Does God Allow Us To Suffer… and have so much pain post updated 01-19-2024

Most people in life experience things here and there that cannot be explained to others.  Even if you tried, it would seem very inadequate to try and tell another person how you feel,  when you can hardly feel. Therefore, the question often remains the same: “Why does God allow us to suffer?”

Often you do not want to feel it because it hurts, you want it to go away, but it doesn’t.  It is there when you wake up and then when you go to bed again.

Often these kinds of experiences are the things that rock the very core of one’s being. It is for sure that it does not matter if we are living a dedicated Christian life or not, sorrow of the heart comes to all. If we are living for Christ, we are heirs to his wonderful blessings and have more strength to overcome, rebound, and renew.

What He Has Promised…

I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:….”  Isaiah 45: 2

“Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:”  Isaiah 40:4

“God is our refuge and strength and a very present help in time of trouble.”  Psalm 46:1

“Cast all your cares upon Him; for He careth for you.”  1 Peter 5:7

“Commit your way unto the Lord; trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” Psalms 37:5

“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous; and His ears are open to their cry.”  Psalms 34:15

The Things That Make Us Stronger

Be it personal failures, hardships,  death, unforeseen situations in life, or something that we feel we do not have an adequate provision to change, we can find strength with Christ in our lives. We find the understanding, strength, and courage to go on.

In some of these situations, there is a grief process. In others, it is relief needed, if not deliverance.  Deliverance is of course the best solution, as we want it to vanish. It does not always happen as we want it to.

First, you are hurt and you grieve, then you try to accept or find a way to define, amend, defend, and change what has happened. We know in some of these life moments; the aforementioned closures are not possible.  In situations where possible, it takes a lot of determination and willingness to move forward with acceptance and a surreal knowing that God is always aware of what is going on.

A Family Personal Tragedy That I Watched

I had a family member who lost his wife at a very young age, leaving two adorable little girls.  She was sick, but no one thought, sick enough to die.  She did, while he was in the kitchen getting a cup of tea ordered by the doctor when he sent her home after a long wait in the clinic.

My brother-in-law’s explanation of this tragedy was;  “I had to make myself breathe.” Of course, with two little girls to raise,  he had a lot more things he had to make himself do.  He stepped up to the plate and only God knows his pain.

This happened 35 years ago.  When he talks about it now, you can still hear the pain in his voice.  Yes, he has endured and the girls are grown with a family of their own, and it is easy to know why they keep a close watch on their dad.  There has never been a stepmother in their lives.

Why This Story…..  because this was a real tragedy.

Sometimes our experiences are not as tragic, much of the time we bring a lot of our problems and tragic moments on ourselves. It can be due to negligence in our prayer life or not asking God for guidance.

This is when we should be able to look at life from another perspective.  No, it isn’t always easy, and often things cannot be changed or redone.  It is then that acceptance, correction, and changes are needed in our lives.

Often we humans or maybe I should say some, are not able to focus on what is good in our life and instead of dwelling on the bad.  Why is it that we cannot take these times of not understanding, and look at our blessings and know that they far outweigh all things negative?

It is simple, yet not always easy to focus on God’s loving mercy when we are hurting. We want answers and understanding.  The why is not always to be understood or explained, but to be accepted as part of life that is known only by The Father.

Does God “really” allow us to have pain and suffering?

Yes, and here is the scripture that tells us:

“Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.”  Hosea 6: 1

“For he wounds, but he also binds up; he injures, but his hands also heal.” Job 5: 18

“But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.”  Lamentations 3: 32

To Everything, There Is a Season

1:   “To every thing, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;  3:A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;  4: A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; 5:A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; 6: A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;  7:  A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;  8: A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.  Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8

If He Loves Us, Why Does He Allow Pain?

Because He loves us, is the simple answer.

If we never had a time of pain, suffering, frustration, or sadness;  we would not know how to treat our fellowmen.  We would become so infatuated with ourselves that we would forget about God and have no respect for anyone who had problems.

I hate to say this, but we need problems, pain, and failure to keep us close to God.  If everything was wonderful all the time; we would forget to call on God.

“There is a saying that if the devil is not tempting you;  he already has you.”  What do you think?  Some things we experience are from the evil one to try to deter our growth in Jesus Christ…

What is the purpose?

It is because he must TEACH US:

1) that he does love us
2) that he and he alone is our comforter
3) that we must come to him and he will abundantly pardon
4) that no matter how many times we come to him in need, he is always there, and
5) that we did not choose him,  he chose us and he wants us to live more by the Word Of God.
