The Heart Is Often Deceitful

The Heart is Often Deceitful

The Heart Is Often Deceitful-sad but true

Most humans do not like to admit that sometimes we can become deceived or misguided within our hearts. About people, things, what is most important in life, and our salvation. This can be in many ways of life about certain teachings, ways of living, or Christian life. We tend to be led into believing something is right when it isn’t. Yes, the heart is often deceitful.

We do not do this on purpose, as very often it sounds good, and feels okay, and we tell ourselves it is okay. Yes, this is when we know that the heart is often deceitful. This is when we must search the scriptures to see what they tell us.

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7

We also tend to keep our minds closed and say that everyone must follow his or her heart, instead of the Word of God.

It is also evident that the heart of a Christian with the Wisdom of God will tell us the truth; it is up to us, to listen or not to listen to our sometimes deceitful heart.

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked, who can know it?”  Jeremiah 17:9

We should be careful that our hearts do not become as the scripture says once we confess our sins.

Of course, Jesus knows the heart of every individual, and we are not to judge anyone, ever. However, if we are to be more like Him, we will try to remember this scripture that states:

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out in the world.” 1 John 4:1

These words given through Jeremiah were written for our benefit today. Some of the circumstances that existed in the day of Jeremiah appear to be at work within the world right now.

People are losing their morality, their consciousness, and their dignity, and do not seem to care. They are trying to deter the people who are trying to live decently and laugh at what they identify as their ignorance.

Anything is alright, and anything goes, but Jeremiah tells us that even the heart is deceitful. It is important to know that everyone needs wisdom for their soul.

Wisdom For Our Soul Through The Word

“Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.” Jeremiah 17: 5

“For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.” v-6

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.” v-7

“For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.” v-8

‘The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” v-9

“I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”  Jeremiah 17:10

“A partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatchet them not; so he that getteth riches,  and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.” Jeremiah 17:11

The main objective of this post is to help us remember to be careful for nothing as the scripture says, to try and know for sure the path we are taking is the right path to go to heaven. If we are easily persuaded to lighten up a little on what we believe to have been right for a lifetime, we might lose our way.

My Own Experience

I know this to be true, as, at one point in my life, I lived away from my home church. I did not attend regularly, and I became a very weak person who feared God but allowed myself to falter. I began investing my time in things that I had been taught all my life were wrong.  I can be honest, can you? That is how we overcome, by being honest with ourselves, and others.

I still prayed, read the Bible, and believed in Jesus, but really; I had lost my way. The Lord knows our hearts. He knows our intentions, but it is up to us to turn our path from the path of unrighteousness to live so that we will be rewarded with our place in heaven.

We must watch ourselves to be sure we are maintaining our good and profitable work.

“This is a faithful saying and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.”Titus 3:8

“God is always good, but He does not condone sin from anyone, and that includes me.”

Summary- Scripture

“Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4: 16
