Understanding Faith In The Bible
Understanding Faith In The Bible is a greater comforter for living a life of peace…post updated 05-19-23
With more time at home, loss of family, loss of income, and other important necessities in life, some people are seeking to know exactly what is faith in the Bible.
“The answer to what is faith in the Bible is not something we talk about lightly. It is serious, it is real, it can save, and it can heal.”
No, not all people feel the same, however, if you have suffered loss, despair, and uncertainty within your life and are seeking consolation, faith in God’s Word is certainly where to start.
There are many questions from individuals who want to know exactly what is Spiritual Faith and What is Faith In The Bible? I believe that one must understand this subject is unique to all. One must understand it from where they are, with their perspective, through their own eyes. One must seek and know that faith is believing when you do not see the final results.
“Faith is not what we see, it is what we do not see, but what we know from deep inside.”
Faith- Do You Believe In Faith?
If you think about this for very long, you know that our entire life is that of faith. You may not actually think that you have faith or believe in God from a spiritual perspective, or that faith exists in you. However, I am here to show you that it does, always has, and always will.
Definition of Faith – Oxford Dictionaries
- Complete trust or confidence in someone or something. Synonyms: trust- belief-confidence, conviction-optimism
- Strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.
I believe the proof is in the Bible, and I have seen faith work with prayer.
So What Is Faith In The Bible?
There is no way that we could compare all of the Bible Scripture about Faith here. However, here is one of the most important Bible Scriptures you could ever need:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Hebrews 11:1 – King James Version
Secondly, it is impossible to believe in God, without faith that He exists.
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
Hebrews 11:6 – King James Version
Faith For Healing and Salvation:
“And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.” James 5:15
“Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.” Matthew 15:28
Fear Of Life Things:
” Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10
Faith For The Necessities of Life:
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”Philippians 4:19
“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” Mark 11:24
“Faith Cometh By Hearing and Hearing By The Word Of God” Romans 10:17
What Does It Take For Someone Who Does Not Believe – to Reconsider…
It is easy to believe in something we can see and put our hands on. Some people have never experienced something that takes their breath away or made them think there has to be a better way to live life than this. However, when their life hits rock bottom, and in their pain, they realize that they need a better plan for living.
It can be something as daunting as the death of someone they love more than their own life. Grief can bring a person to a point of dismal. Without proper attention, grief can lead to a non-existent lifestyle for the person.
Another situation might be they have managed to become addicted to alcohol, drugs, sex, abuse, or any other overly unnatural existence in life.
We know that all of these things mentioned can cause life to crumble, and fall apart and it can make one feel they need to just get away from it all. They do not know what to do, or whom to talk to. So, they end their life which could have been avoided by accepting God’s promises in the Word.
In an instance, one can be thrown into doubt that life is worth living. They begin to question life, its significance, and how could they be put on this earth to suffer loss and defeat in so many different ways.
Some people at this point will seek help from a minister/counselor or even the Bible that may be stored in the bottom drawer that Mama gave them. They begin to seek solace. It is then that one knows their existence depends upon finding help and understanding how to live a life of peace and have a reason to live.
This is when they become aware of God’s promises and learn to live by faith, they can recover and live their life again with peace and contentment. They can seek to know what Faith can and will do for them.
Jesus forgives and forgets all of our sins when they are acknowledged to Him, and repentance is sought.
“I SOUGHT the LORD and he heard me, and delevered me from all my fears.” Psalms 34:4
“For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” Psalms 100:5
“O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalms 107:1 and 1st Chronicles 16:34
So let’s consider more of what the Word Of God says…
The Word states that we are all sinners, saved by grace. We can only come to Him when He draws us. Faith in the Bible tells us as mentioned above, that all things are possible if we have faith to believe in Him and His Word.
Let’s step back a moment though…we must remember that life does not always give us what we want. God has promised through faith that we will have WHAT WE NEED. There are times that we want things, or people within our life that we do not need.
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.” 1 John 5:14
Sin brings things within life, that God did not cause, nor was His will also. When someone is drunk, has a wreck that injures or brings death to another human, was not God’s plan. It was caused by the drunkness of the individual who was driving. Oftentimes, people want to question why?
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double-minded. James 4:8
Here Are Some Highlights of a Life Lived With Faith
When you go to bed at night, you have usually planned something for the morrow. Going to work is on your agenda, as getting that promotion, or meeting with the CEO. You have plans and we all do every day for something or someone. Without realizing it, you are having faith that you will wake up, and complete those plans.
When you take that lunch break and decide to walk to the restaurant without even realizing it, or thinking about it, you have put your trust in the fact you will return. Your faith is telling you to go ahead and cross the street as the red light changes, it is safe, and no car will sail through the intersection.
When you give your spouse or child a hug in the morning and tell them that you will see them in the evening, you are having faith that you will make it through the day.
Everything In Life Is Attached To Faith –more scriptures
“We have no guarantees in the life that we live for anything more than the moment we are in. Not one moment do we have that is a certainty that our life will continue as it is. In one moment’s time, everything about our life can change. Therefore, we live by faith. We live by faith because we cannot live in fear.”
It is normal not to think about it, we are not supposed to be afraid to cross the street, drive the car, or go to bed at night thinking about dying. No, we are not but what we should realize is that our faith exists and we should enhance it further within our life.
Faith Is A Beautiful Thing
It is a gift, and yes, it is from God. It is something that God put into man’s existence. You cannot live in fear of all things in life. If we did not have faith in the natural things we do in life, where would we be? We believe that our spouse will love us until we die. We have confidence that if we work hard enough, we will have our needs.
Faith keeps us going. It is faith that tells us to get up in the morning and go about our daily task of living our life in the minute-to-minute process. If it is not trust, confidence, or belief in something, then you tell me what it is.
We do not want to argue the point at all, what we are simply saying is that faith is present in our life from the time we are born until the time we die. Your belief is yours, and you have the right to believe what you will.
Further With This Wonderful Thing Called Faith
If you are a Christian then you know where it comes from. Faith is described by religious individuals as the instrument that God uses to bring salvation to all people. The Bible clearly indicates that salvation is the gift of God through faith.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” Ephesians 2:8
A Reference From Dr. Shepherd
One of my favorite books is by Dr. Peter Shepherd, “Transforming The Mind.” In this book, he talks about “The Insight Project,” and this is an exact statement from the book that I have about this insight project. The latter is a course that you can take on Dr. Shepherd’s website.
”We affirm that man’s nature is essentially spiritual but that it is no good seeking spiritual things until we can distinguish the spiritual from the mundane.”
In other words, it is about self-discovery. I do believe that if you were to look within, you would find your spiritual self, and the faith, which keeps you going.
So, if you do not believe you have a spiritual self, it will be hard for you to believe in faith. It could be that you do not know yourself very well. So many people do not take the time to look at who they really are, who they once were, or who they might become without discipline. That is part of Life Coaching and finding our best self.
Example: Have you ever been with someone who has just gotten the worst news in his or her entire life and you heard the words; “Oh, God help me?” If so, you may not have realized it at the time, but those words are a sign of faith, a sign of a spiritual essence within that person. It is a sign of believing in a God who has all power and who will answer
