Jesus Christ- The Greatest Treasure

Jesus Christ, The Greatest Treasure
I read a story a few years ago about a man who went into a diamond field looking for diamonds. He didn’t find any diamonds, but there was a large rock that caught his eye.
He had the rock carried to his home and placed in his yard as an ornament. He lived for years with this huge rock setting in his yard while he lived a minimal lifestyle, living on dry crusty bread and watered-down soup.
One day, a stranger passing by saw the huge rock and stopped to investigate. He knocked on the door and asked the man about the rock. He told him that he had had it for several years, so the traveler investigated the rock and told him that it was the largest diamond in the world.
This poor man had wealth at his door and left it in the yard while he lived as a scholar.
These Scriptures Reminds Us To Be Aware of the Adversary
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.” Matthew 13:44
Now, why would you sell everything you own to buy the field if you already have the treasure?
It tells us in I Peter 5:8,
“Be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
If you haven’t secured your territory, the enemy will come in and destroy all that you have. We tend to believe that just because we have Christ and our treasure in our hearts, we have all we need; we are warned to be on guard daily.
The Enemy Often Comes When We Are Not Being Vigilant
Satan comes at us at our weakest point, wherever it might be. That is why Paul warns us to display the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23,
“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering (kindness) gentleness, (goodness) Faith, (faithfulness) 23. Meekness, (humility) temperance: (self-control): against such there is no law.”
The one I’m touching on here is temperance, or self-control. Our flesh gets us into more trouble, and most of the time, it becomes our weakest link where Satan attacks us more often. Any time we break the laws of God, we are allowing our flesh to control our thoughts and actions.
How many times have we had the greatest treasure on earth, and let the enemy steal our Joy, love, and peace by not trusting and obeying our savior? When we fail to recognize the tricks of the enemy, we often want to make excuses for our behaviors. That doesn’t get us back to where we need to be.
The Lord does not send distractions to us; He doesn’t tempt us or send us into chaos. It is our actions, reactions, and often our blindness to the fact that Satan is after us and wants us to fail.
Our Greatest Treasure
Our greatest treasure is the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed on the old rugged cross to redeem us from our fallen state of sin that we were born into. When we follow the laws of God, we have secured our territory to keep the enemy from robbing us of our greatest treasure.
Summary
It is crucial to recognize the value of what we have been given and not to overlook or take it for granted. Just as the man failed to realize the treasure in his own yard, we can sometimes miss the blessings and spiritual riches that God has placed in our lives.
By nurturing our relationship with Christ and remaining vigilant in our faith, we can truly appreciate and safeguard the treasure entrusted to us.
